Many of the values upheld by human rights theorists were recognised before the development of a rights discourse and are part of belief systems that have no vocabulary of rights. For example, prohibitions on torture, conceptions of free speech, and basic needs for food, clothing and shelter have long been recognised in most traditions. There was very little that was new in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and insofar as there were innovations, such as a right to work, rest and leisure and enjoyment of the Arts, doubts have been raised about their status as universal human rights.

The Competing Values Approach This perspective assesses an organization's culture in terms of how it resolves a set of value dilemmas. the approach suggests that an organization's culture can be understood in terms of two important ''value pairs''; each pair consist of contradictory values placed at opposite ends of a continuum. the two value pairs are (1) internal focus and integration versus external focus and differentiation and (2) flexibility and discretion versus stability and control. organizations continually struggle to satisfy the conflicting demands placed on them by these competing values.

The first level of damage identification is to determine the damage occurrence in structures according to the global change of structural integrity. The most popular and effective method is the response-based method that directly or indirectly interprets the measured response data of the structure. Usually, the data available are the experimental data before and after damage occurred, and the occurrence of damage is determined through finding their difference.

Fear is a product of the mind in reaction to a perceived threat. All spiritual traditions teach that we can have absolute control over our mind and its reactions and that we can choose to react either with pessimism and fear or with optimism and courage. For many (yours truly included), this can be very difficult to put into practice because after many years of the same patterned responses, we can believe that our reactions are simply natural responses to events.

Discourse creates a world. By shaping our perceptions of the world, pulling together chains of associations that produce a meaningful understanding, and then organizing the way we behave towards objects in the world and towards other people, one might say that discourse generates the world of our everyday life. After all, even though science teaches us that the “real world” is the material world made up of atoms and energy, in a real way the world for most of us is a world of colors, emotions, ideas, and life. It is a kind of virtual world generated by our minds, but not by us alone—we construct this world socially through a complex interaction between experience, upbringing, and education. Discourses, as chains of language that bind us social beings together, play a key role in the social construction of reality.

She had eyes that were the color of burnt amber and a dewy peaches and cream complexion. She radiated a soft, mellow warmth reminiscent of fall—an old soul in a young girl’s body. Two weeks before, she’d had her braces removed, and her smile was like a burst of sunlight piercing through a raincloud.

He was very bent, and since there was no handle or support to keep his balance, he unclasped his hands compulsively from the pedestal vase… and it fell and disintegrated into three pieces in a slow voice!
